Camping can be great fun, but there's nothing worse than trying to cook, clean, or even just eat dinner in the dirt. Enter the humble camping table - with the best camping table, you can add an extra layer of class to your adventure.
But camping tables come in all shapes and sizes, so which one should you pick? A cheap table should be fine, right? Wrong! Well, maybe...
The truth is that it's pretty hard to decide which one to buy. But lucky for you, I've done all the hard work to bring you the following list of the top 10 camping tables on the Australian market in 2023.
My Review Process
I've been camping pretty much since the day I could walk (and even a few times before that, from what I've been told). I've come to understand just how important good quality gear at an affordable price is. And having the right table to prepare food and socialise around is absolutely crucial.
The best camping tables should be compact, durable, lightweight, and the right size for your needs. I've drawn on my years of camping experience and countless hours of research to bring you the following list of the top 10 camping tables for Australia in 2023.
With the huge range of compact camping tables on the market, I had a little trouble settling on a number-one option. But in the end, I went with this Coleman folding table because it's one of the most versatile camping tables around. When used as a dining table, it seats four people comfortably.
On top of this, the neat foldable design makes it super easy to set up, and it packs away into a compact bundle to make it easy to carry. It is a little heavy compared to some lightweight tables, but it's an impressive option that you should definitely consider.
If you're looking for a small, budget camping table, this Trekology model is a great option. It features an aluminium tabletop, reinforced frames, and a very lightweight design. At just 840 grams, it's the perfect weight for hiking or backpacking.
The main downside is that this camping table only sits just over 30cm high. It's easy to carry and comes in at a very low price, but be ready for its small size.
If you're looking for a camping table with extra storage, this Night Cat compact table is certainly worth considering. It boasts a roll-up design with a tough aluminium tabletop and adjustable table legs. It's easy to set up and pack away, and your purchase comes with a carry bag for easy transport.
On top of this, it boasts a 75kg weight capacity. The built-in storage shelf is great for storing food and kitchen gear while you're at camp, and there's plenty of room for dining.
I personally love this option, and it was super close to taking out the number-one position!
If you're looking for a compact, lightweight option for hiking and backpacking, the iClimb Mini Folding Table is a great choice. It's small, yes, and it only sits 10cm off of the ground. But it packs down to a small bundle that weighs just 644 grams, and it can be tucked in the corner of your backpack.
One thing I particularly like about this table is that it's heat and flame-resistant. This means that you can place your stove straight on top for easy cooking. You will also get a convenient carry bag for storage.
This portable camping picnic table is a great option for putting out snacks while you're at camp. It features four drink holders for people who - like me - enjoy a bevy or two while they're on the road. And, the folding design makes it super easy to set up.
Granted, this isn't the best lightweight camping table. It's rather bulky as well. But if you want a cheap, convenient option that you can rely on, the LEADALLWAY folding picnic table is worth considering.
I don't have the GCI Outdoor Slim Fold Cook Station, but I want one! It comes with everything you need for camp cooking and food preparation, including a sturdy aluminium countertop, four fold-out side tables, and a built-in storage rack.
It is a little large, and it's not great for sitting around, but it's one of the best options on the market if you're looking for a table to add to your camping kitchen.
Remember those white folding tables that everyone seems to have? Perhaps you even have one already? Well, that's exactly what this cheap camping table from Coleman is. It features a clean surface and a larger weight capacity than most of the models on this list, and it's super easy to set up.
On top of this, the height-adjustable legs enable you to set it to the right height for your needs. There's even a built-in carry handle.
The main downside of this steel-frame table is that it doesn't fold up into a super compact bundle, but it's a great option for when you're camping out of a vehicle and have a little extra space.
This affordable table from Naturehike also comes in as one of the lightest options on the market. It's small, but it's super compact and very easy to transport. The soft tabletop includes two built-in drink holders, and it has a large 30kg weight capacity.
What's more, this table features a versatile surface that can be used for everything from food prep to cards and other games. It's also designed with durability in mind, making it perfect for Australia's harsh conditions.
If you want a camping table with a little more class, the Camco Bamboo Folding Table could be the perfect option. It boasts height adjustable legs, adjustable feet for levelling on uneven surfaces.
On top of this, the attractive bamboo tabletop is great for food prep. And I mean, it just looks good, doesn't it?
This model is a little low to the ground, but it remains one of my favourite tables for cooking and eating around.
Last, but certainly not least, is the PORTAL lightweight aluminium camping table. Its square design makes it perfect for up to four people, and it rolls up into a compact bundle for storage and transport.
On top of this, the aluminium surface makes it the perfect camping kitchen table. It's great for cooking, and the lightweight aluminium frame is super durable. This table is simple, but it comes in at a very reasonable price, and it's worth considering.
How To Choose The Best Camping Table
There are hundreds, if not thousands of different camping tables on the market, and choosing the right one can seem nearly impossible. To help you out, I've put together the following list of important decision-making factors to think about.
There are a few different camping table designs on the market, and it's important to decide which one you want. The three main types you will come across are:
Folding - These are the simplest camping tables, where the legs fold into the table to become flat. These are still quite bulky when folded and storage can be difficult, but they often have the lowest price tag.
Collapsible - These are similar to folding tables, except they fold many more times to become a more compact packed product. They generally have a higher price, but they are great for trips where storage space is an issue.
Rollup - Rollup tables are also great on the storage front. The tabletop can usually be rolled around the collapsed frame to form a small, compact bundle.
Camping tables come in various shapes and sizes, and these are built with a selection of different materials. Plastic camping tables are usually the cheapest, but aluminium and stainless steel ones will be much more durable and, often, are lighter.
I'd recommend setting your maximum price before you even begin looking for a new camping table. Having a budget that you're committed to sticking to will help guide your choice, eliminating some options immediately.
Height & Size
This one's pretty self-explanatory, but you basically need to ensure you select a camping table that's the right size for your needs.
The surface area should be big enough for cooking, dining, and anything else you want to use it for, and it should sit at an appropriate height off of the ground - or have adjustable legs.
Higher-quality tables are generally much more durable and will be better suited to regular camping trips in Australia's tough conditions. For maximum long-term durability, I'd suggest a sturdy table with steel legs and a lightweight aluminium tabletop.
Weight is often a significant deciding factor when it comes to choosing a camping table. Some plastic and metal models are quite heavy, which makes them difficult to move around. Some models don't fold well for storage, while others roll into a compact bundle.
If you're anything like me, you're going to be using your camping table for a whole lot of cooking. And trust me, there's nothing worse than having a wobbly table while you're trying to cut something like a pumpkin or carrots for your campfire dinner.
I'd highly recommend going for a nice, stable camping table.
In a similar vein, I'd suggest getting a camping table with a high weight capacity. There's nothing worse than setting up the camp BBQ to cook dinner, only to find that your table won't support its weight.
The best all-around camping table on the Australian market is the Coleman outdoor folding table. It’s closely followed by the Night Cat folding table as another versatile option and the Trekology portable camping table as one of the best budget models available.
Every other camping table on this list is worth considering, as they all have unique benefits and selling points. Spend some time selecting the right option, and enjoy the convenience of a foldable table on your next outdoor adventure.
