Multiple 10 person tents

Best 10 Person Tents In Australia

Pros
  • Internal dividing wall
  • Space for two queen mattresses inside
  • Very fast to set up
  • Very competitively priced
  • Durable rip-stop material
Cons
  • Quite heavy

The Coleman Instant Up 10-man tent brings the best of everything to the table. It boasts a fast, 3-minute setup time, which makes it the perfect choice for streamlined, hassle-free camping.

It's built with durable materials that are designed to withstand Australian conditions. The tent material has a polyester rip-stop design, so small holes don't turn into major problems.

There are four entry points, enabling easy access from all directions. Windows are spread throughout, and each window has mosquito mesh to keep the bugs out.

Inside, there's a dividing wall that can be added or removed as necessary, separating the tent into two rooms. If you're a family camping with young children, you may like to keep the wall down. But, there's always the option of a little extra privacy if you want it.

The main downside here is the weight, which comes in at 30kg. This is partly due to the size, and partly due to the heavy-duty PVC floor and durable design

Many families quickly outgrow small 4-person and 6-person tents. Trying to cram the kids, pets, and all your gear to a smaller tent can be super frustrating and make for an average camping experience.

10-person tents are the perfect compromise between an option that's too small for all your gear and one that's just too bulky and hard to set up.

But selecting the best 10-man tent is hard. There are countless options on the market, and most of them claim to be the best. Should you be going for a budget model? Or is it worth spending your money on a higher-end item? And are there any accessories or add-ons you should be looking for?

To help you make your selection, I've put together a shortlist of my favourite 10-person tents for Australia's harsh conditions. You can find these below, along with some quick tips to help you choose the perfect model!

How I Made My Selections

I'm a seasoned traveller, and I've spent years camping in every corner of Australia, from the dry and dusty outback to the cool forests of Tasmania and the rugged coastline of Western Australia. I've learnt exactly what makes a tent suitable for Australian weather and climate conditions.

The best 10-person tents should be durable, relatively lightweight, easy to set up, and easily ventilated. The top picks below score excellently in all 4 of these areas.

My Winner
Pros
  • Spacious 3-room design
  • Loads of internal space for storage
  • A heavy-duty PE floor
  • Excellent internal ventilation
  • Four awnings for added weather protection
Cons
  • Takes some time to set up
  • Awnings can catch water in heavy rain

This spacious 3-room tent is the perfect option for large families on a budget. It's one of the cheapest 10-person tents we've seen, and it hands-down offers the best value for money of any tent in Australia.

The OZtrail Family Dome Tent comes in at just 18kg, making it quite a lightweight option. However, it does take longer to set up than our number-one choice, the Coleman Instant Up.

Inside the tent you will find loads of item storage options, including loft storage. Each room has at least one window for ventilation, complete with mesh coverings.

There are even 4 awnings that you can set up for extra shade or as protection from bad weather.

The bottom line: The OZtrail Family Dome Tent is clearly the best budget 10-person family tent on the market.

Best Inflatable 10-Person Tent
My Winner
Pros
  • Fully inflatable for rapid setup
  • Large awning for weather protection
  • Very high ceilings for added space
  • Generous 5-year warranty
  • Built-in heavy-duty groundsheet
Cons
  • Very heavy and takes up a lot of space
  • Very expensive compared to the alternatives

The Zempire Airforce 1 is quite a unique option. Unlike most tents, which use slightly flexible tent poles for support, this is a fully-inflatable option. This makes it very easy to set up.

In my opinion, this is the best inflatable tent in Australia. Sure, it's a little pricey, but there's loads of room for both a bedroom and a living space. There's also a neat inflatable awning, and the entire model is backed by a 5-year manufacturers warranty.

Best Tent for Extra Space
My Winner
Pros
  • Heaps of extra space for storage and living inside
  • DarkRoom technology for extra insulation
  • Awesome features including built-in lights and ripstop material
  • 2-year manufacturers warranty
  • Designed for rapid, straightforward setup
Cons
  • More expensive than the Coleman Gold Series
  • Awnings can catch and pool water when it rains

The Coleman Northstar instant up is one of the largest tents on our list. It boasts indoor space for 3 queen-sized beds, 1.9 metres of head space, and DarkRoom technology to remove light and keep the inside cooler.

It's a little more expensive than the Coleman Instant Up Gold Series, but you do get a third room. All in all, it's the perfect low-cost tent for those looking for a little more space than a standard 10-person model offers.

Best for High Walls and Standing Room
My Winner
Pros
  • Innovative pop out window design
  • Thick, durable floor material
  • High walls for plenty of internal space
  • Performs well in rain
Cons
  • Concerns about the material durability
  • Can be unstable in high winds

The Columbia Mammoth Creek tent is an excellent option for families and large groups looking for something simple. It features a high, straight-wall design for increased space, complete with a divider to separate it into two rooms.

There's space for a queen mattress in each half of the tent, or else you can fit up to ten campers sleeping side-by-side. The main downside of this tent is the time it takes to put up. I also have a few concerns about its durability, as it doesn't appear to be built with the same Australian-standard materials as most of the alternatives.

Is A 10 Person Tent Too Big?

When it comes to tents, I'm often asked how big is too big. Do you really need a 10-person tent? Or would a smaller dome type tent be a better option?

In short, this depends. For most, buying a larger 10-person cabin style tent is an excellent option, even if you don't need the space for this many people.

The extra rooms that come with a tent of this size enable you to have a bedroom and a spacious living area.

Pets can stay in the living area if required. The internal dividers that every model I've featured here includes adds extra privacy, enabling multiple families or couples to share the same awesome tent.

The main downside to larger models is their portability. They tend to be quite heavy, and definitely aren't suited to hiking or cycling. They will also take up a decent amount of space in your vehicle, which is something to be aware of.

10 Person Tent Buying Guide

Selecting a 10-person tent for beach trips, country trips, or any other camping getaway can be difficult. To help you through the process, I've put together a short list of things to think about.

Quality And Durability

The quality of a tent's materials is something you have to consider if you're planning to use it in Australia's harsh conditions. Look for durable canvas or breathable polyester with a no-rip design and tough mesh doors.

Ease Of Set Up

As tents get larger, they can become quite difficult to set up. Even some of the options on my list above can take up to half an hour to put up, while some of the Instant Up options go up in just a few minutes. Keep this in mind.

Ventilation

In hot weather, adequate ventilation becomes something that you just have to have. There should be windows in the individual bedrooms, and all doors and windows should have a mesh screen to keep the bugs out.

Space

Not all 10-person tents are equal, and some have a lot more space than others. Ensure you select an option that has enough gear loft and storage space for your larger items, especially if you're planning to camp in poor weather. If weight is an issue, an 8-person tent can also accommodate 6 people comfortably.

Price

Last, but not least, you will have to decide how much you want to pay. Models like the Zempire Airforce 1 appear excellent, but they are many times the price of cheaper options like the OZTrail Family Dome Tent. Our leader, the Coleman Instant Up Gold Series, offers the best value for money on the market.

Summary

10-person tents are excellent. Most feature interior dividers, abundant ventilation, gear storage space, oversized windows, and a heavy-duty PE floor.

Our number-one option is the Coleman Instant Up Gold Series. It's very affordable, designed for Australia's tough conditions, and quick to set up. The OZtrail Family Dome Tent is great for those on a budget, and the other three options on my list are all worth considering.

Whatever 10-person camping tent you choose, I'm sure you'll have a great time on your next holiday!
